Cat Veterinary Services

Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel’s cat vet services are exclusively for cats! (No dogs or other pets here…just cats!) Our veterinary services for cats are designed to keep your felines happy and healthy, with a wide range of general cat vet services, wellness & preventive care, emergency care & more.

Overview of our Cat Vet Services

Here’s a look at the veterinary services that we offer just for cats:

Behavior Consultation

Each and every cat vet here is an expert in cat health and cat care, and we have a special interest in cat behavior. Some undesirable behaviors start because of a health condition while others may be due to anxiety. We provide consultation, strategies, and advice to help cat owners get a handle on problematic cat behaviors.

Dental Care for Cats

Cat dental care is an important part of preventive medicine because studies have shown that the health of your cat’s mouth affects its overall health. For example, cats with dental infections may have higher levels of bacteria in their blood stream, which can cause bladder, kidney, liver, heart, and lung disease. A regimen of regular, professional cat dental cleanings can mean a world of difference in your cat’s health and well-being. Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel offers a range of cat dental care, including dental x-rays, cat teeth cleaning, extracting painful teeth, and tools and coaching to help you care for your cat’s teeth at home. A combination of professional cat dental care and brushing your cat’s teeth at home is the best way to ensure that your cat has a healthy mouth.

Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel offers an extensive array of diagnostic options to help diagnose a sick cat. We offer X-rays, ultrasound, blood, urine, and fecal tests. Many of these tests can be performed at our in-house lab. More advanced diagnostics are handled through an outside laboratory we hand-picked for its quality and accuracy. Some services are provided at our sister hospital, Mile High Animal Hospital of Aurora, only 2.5 miles away. We transport our patients between hospitals when necessary, at no additional cost to you.

Emergency Medicine

Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel offers emergency medicine & critical care during our office hours: Tuesdays-Fridays, from 9 am-5 pm, and Saturdays from 9 am-noon. 720-638-4482

For emergencies that occur beyond our hours of operation, please visit our sister facility: Mile High Animal Hospital of Aurora (, located nearby. Hours of operation are: Monday-Friday, 8 am-7 pm; Saturdays and Sundays, from 9 am-5 pm. 303.693.6484

We also offer a list of Aurora & metro Denver emergency vet clinics that are open 24/7. (“Emergency Vet Clinics” links to the Emergency page on the website.)

If you think your cat has a medical emergency, call us at 720-638-4482, and our staff will determine if you should bring your pet in or if we should refer you to an emergency specialist. If your pet needs critical care that’s not life threatening, but you feel you need to see one of our veterinarians earlier than when you can schedule an appointment, call us; we’ll squeeze you in as quickly as we can.

Typical emergency scenarios include, but are not limited to:

  • Trouble breathing
  • A serious cut or broken bone
  • Violent vomiting
  • Bloated, distended abdomen
  • Ingestion of a foreign body or toxic substance
  • Unconsciousness
  • Seizure
  • Unable to urinate or defecate
  • Unable to walk
  • Unable to open an eye
  • Injury from a fall or being hit by a car
  • A pregnant cat experiencing hard labor (more than 30 minutes to deliver kittens)

General Veterinary Care

We offer a host of non-emergency-based, general veterinary care options for cat owners. By staying on top of vaccination schedules, conducting annual check-ups, and routine health maintenance, Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel uses a variety of approaches to keep cats happy & healthy.

Health Certificates for Cats

For cats traveling outside of Colorado, or outside the U.S., Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel provides pet health certificates. Our cat doctors are federally accredited and work closely with the USDA to help make travel for you and your cats as smooth as possible. To obtain a health certificate, simply contact us and schedule an appointment for an exam and a health certificate for your cat.

Hospice & Euthanasia Services

One of the toughest decisions a cat owner will ever make is whether it’s time to euthanize a beloved cat that is ill or has lost its quality of life. Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel offers hospice services for cats with a bit of time left, including pain management through medications and/or Class IV Laser therapy. For cats who are ready for their final journey, we offer compassionate and peaceful euthanasia services.

Cat Microchipping

Cat microchipping is one of the best ways to make sure that a lost cat makes its way home. Our cat microchipping services are safe and effective. The stats don’t lie: microchipping your cat significantly improves the chances of your cat being properly identified so it can be returned to you. Getting a microchip for your cat is a safe, fast, outpatient procedure that does not require anesthesia.

Nutrition Counseling for Cats

Nutrition counseling for your cat can be a powerful tool to keep your cat healthy, either in general or to help treat specific conditions, including allergies, arthritis, chronic bladder problems, diabetes, and kidney disease.  We offer nutrition counseling for cats, and a variety of prescription pet foods for cats and dogs, including Hill’s Prescription Diets, Royal Canin Veterinary Diets, and more.

Pharmacy & Prescription Refills

We offer a full-service pharmacy to provide medications that resolve health problems for your cat, or which stabilize a specific condition. We can fill prescriptions, refill prescriptions, and provide prescription cat foods as well.

Note: By law, a veterinarian at Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel must have examined your cat in the past year in order for us to dispense or prescribe medications for your cat.

When diagnosing a problem with your cat’s organs or bones, radiology (x-rays) are an effective diagnostic tool. Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel uses an advanced digital x-ray system for your cats. Our staff also has undergone extensive training on how to handle cats when they need x-rays.

Sick Cat Exams & Consultations

We offer exams and consultations if or when you think your cat is sick. The first step to determining the source of your cat’s ailment depends on you. Our feline patient’s family knows her better than anyone, so we make sure we listen to your concerns. We also depend on your observations to guide us. We follow up with a comprehensive physical exam to localize the problem, and we offer lab tests and other diagnostics when it’s in your cat’s best interests.

Spays & Neuters for Cats

Getting your cat spayed or neutered makes a thoughtful contribution to solving the pet overpopulation problem. We offer castrations (neuters) and ovariohysterectomies (spays) for cats. In addition, we offer a discount on spay-neuter services to encourage cat parents to get their cats spayed or neutered. We utilize anesthesia, preventive pain management strategies, and careful oversight both during and after surgical procedures.

Surgery services for cats include routine surgical procedures (spays & neuters) and more advanced surgeries to remove foreign bodies from the stomach or intestines, remove masses or tumors, treat bladder stones & more. Our expertise & state-of-the-art equipment help ensure a safe recovery for your cat.

When it comes to evaluating soft tissue, ultrasound diagnostic tests can detect tumors, see indications of disease, confirm pregnancies & more. Ultrasound also is particularly helpful in detecting if your cat has ingested a foreign body when the item is not showing up on an X-ray.

Vaccinations for Cats

Cat vaccinations make it safer for cats that roam outside and interact with other animals to stay healthy. They also help stop a host of preventable diseases for which cats are known, including feline leukemia, rabies, feline herpes, calici, and panleukopenia viruses. If you plan to board your cat while you’re traveling, vaccines and proof of those vaccines will be required to place your cat into a cat boarding facility.

Wellness & Preventative Care

The old saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” applies when it comes to veterinary care. Preventive medicine almost always costs less than emergency care. Aurora Cat Hospital & Hotel’s cat vets offer a variety of wellness & preventive care programs for cats that involve signing up in advance, paying a set monthly fee, and obtaining ongoing veterinary care for your cats.
